In my 30 plus years in active ministry, I’ve learned discipline is an indispensable ingredient to accomplish your assignment in life. Did you know that only 20% of individuals achieve their true potential? This is a staggering fact.
As “Mentors” we need to have such dexterity in handling this subject, just like a surgeon manages his scalpel. Having said this the key is not only to teach on it, because the truth is, we can teach on any topic we want, but what gets the job done is “discipline” not talk.
“Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it.” —Prov. 22:6
Training involves discipline. The cemetery is full of very gifted people who never accomplished their dreams, never became champions in life, and never had the satisfaction of seeing their destinies fulfilled. They never learned to live a disciplined life. For gifted people the most difficult thing is disciplining their gift to produce its highest potential. For a talented musician it doesn’t take much to play the piano, guitar or any other musical instrument. The difficulty for him or her is to master one of them.
Parents are mentors who have been given the awesome responsibility to train their child in everything pertaining to life. The next time you look at your child, you will be looking at the handy work you did with him or her. If you don’t like what you see, it’s because you didn’t do a good job in giving him or her, the training he or she needed in that particular area of life.
Many believers today, walk around wondering “what they are good for”. Many were never trained properly, others have tremendous gifts and abilities, but they didn’t have someone who tapped in their lives to bring direction and counsel to maximize their potential. This is not meant to be a blanket indictment for every ministry in the Body of Christ. There are those who have dedicated their lives to raising sons and daughters and have done a great job doing it. However, when we look at the statistics which include believers and non-believers alike; only 20% reach their true full-potential in life. This has to change.
My heart’s desire is to influence as many people as I can with the message of “Mentoring”. It is to me the key to raising a New Generation properly equipped and fully prepared to accomplish their God-given destiny.
Hope you will all join me in this endeavor.
